to provide education, inspiration and opportunities for health, in mind, body and spirit

Central YMCA is one of the UK’s leading charities working in health and fitness education, and we trace our routes to the very start of the YMCA movement in 1844, in London, England.Fifty-one years after its start, in 1895, the founding London YMCAs in Aldersgate Street, Cornhill and Exeter Hall merged to become London Central YMCA – us!

Historical Context

The YMCA has a long and proud Christian heritage which is particularly evident in early records, where the beliefs and activities of YMCAs and key individuals are documented in detail.Since then, the modern ethos of Central YMCA finds expression through programmes and activities which are wide-ranging, inclusive and supportive. Central YMCA unequivocally welcomes, employs and works with those of both sexes, all ethnic backgrounds and of all faiths or of none.
