About Central YMCA - where to start…?!

If we were to ask what comes to mind when you think of the YMCA, would you:

a) sing the song
b) think of the Youth Hostel Association
c) think of exercise and fitness
d) try to remember what YMCA stands for?

Let’s face it, for an international ‘brand’, YMCA means lots of things to lots of people and the YMCA movement is highly unusual in how it is set up, so please read on and we hope in future a few great things will come to mind when you think of a YMCA.

Central YMCA  - this one - is a little different

As one of Europe’s largest YMCAs, Central YMCA is a bit unusual, firstly because our predecessors founded the movement, which is a nice bit of history, and also because unlike most YMCAs in England we work nationally (and internationally) as well as locally, although we do not provide accommodation.

During the last 30 years, our YMCA has focused its resources on the development of expertise to deliver ground-breaking projects, programmes and products in field of health related health activity, through exercise and fitness related activity and through theatre.

Today, Central YMCA comprises central services (CEO, Communications & Fundraising, Human Resources, IT and Finance), supporting five highly respected and innovative operations (one a subsidiary charity). We employ over 150 full-time equivalent staff.
